Accessibility in MagicTranslate
MagicTranslate includes captions and reading tools for people who are Deaf or hard of hearing and for people with low vision. These features are independent of cross-app text capture and do not use the macOS Accessibility API.
- No Accessibility permission: the Mac App Store edition does not request or use it.
- Screen Recording: requested only after the user deliberately starts Live Captions or screenshot capture.
- Copy-then-translate: copy text in another app, then press the translation shortcut. No Accessibility permission is required.
Live Captions for system audio
On macOS 26 or later, Live Captions turn audio playing in any app into synchronized on-screen text. ScreenCaptureKit captures the system audio and Apple Speech performs transcription on the Mac.
- Audio languages: English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean, French, German, and Spanish.
- Display modes: original only, bilingual, or translation only.
- Adjustable text: four caption sizes — 20, 26, 32, and 40 pt.
- Easy configuration: move the pointer over the caption bar — including while no audio is playing — to change audio language, translation language, display mode, and font size. The same controls are available from the menu bar.
- Position and export: drag the caption bar to reposition it; export a session as SRT or VTT, or copy its transcript.
Caption accuracy depends on audio clarity, background noise, overlapping speakers, accent, and the selected language. MagicTranslate captions are not intended for emergency, medical, or other safety-critical communication.
Screenshot OCR and spoken results
Screenshot OCR helps turn small, low-contrast, or unselectable text into editable text. Apple Vision performs recognition locally first. The original OCR text and its translation can be read aloud; the default speech service is the macOS system voice.
- The screenshot is captured only after the user starts the screenshot command and selects an area.
- Screen capture uses Screen Recording permission, not Accessibility permission.
- Original and translated text have separate read-aloud controls.
- Privacy Mode disables all network-facing services, keeping OCR, translation, and speech on-device.
On-device and optional cloud processing
Live-caption transcription and the default Vision OCR and system-speech paths run on the device. Optional third-party cloud translation, OCR, and speech services are disabled by default. They are used only after the user explicitly enters their own credentials, enables the service, and selects it; content then goes directly to that provider under its privacy policy.

Text capture
MagicTranslate uses copy-then-translate and contains no Accessibility-based text capture. Copy text in another app, then press the translation shortcut.

神奇翻译为聋人、听障用户和低视力用户提供实时字幕与文字朗读工具。这些能力与跨 App 自动取词相互独立，不使用 macOS「辅助功能」API。
- 不申请辅助功能权限：MAS 版不请求、不使用该权限。
- 屏幕录制：仅在用户主动启动截图时按需申请。
- 系统音频录制：仅在用户主动开启实时字幕时按需申请，只取系统声音、不使用麦克风（个别环境自动回退为屏幕录制通道）。
- 复制后翻译：在其他 App 复制文本，再按翻译快捷键，无需辅助功能权限。
系统音频实时字幕
在 macOS 26 及以上系统中，实时字幕可把任意 App 播放的系统音频转换成同步文字。ScreenCaptureKit 捕获系统音频，Apple Speech 在 Mac 本机完成转写。
- 音频语言：英语、简体中文、繁体中文、日语、韩语、法语、德语和西班牙语。
- 显示方式：仅原文、双语或仅译文。
- 可调字号：20、26、32、40 pt 四档。
- 随时配置：即使没有音频播放，把鼠标移到字幕条上也能修改音频语言、翻译语言、显示方式和字号；菜单栏提供同样的设置。
- 位置与导出：可拖动字幕条调整位置，并导出 SRT/VTT 或复制整场文字。
字幕准确率会受音质、背景噪声、多人同时说话、口音和所选语言影响，不应用于紧急、医疗等安全关键场景。
截图 OCR 与结果朗读
截图 OCR 可把小字、低对比度文字和无法直接选中的文字转成可编辑文本。默认先用 Apple Vision 在本机识别，原文和译文均可独立朗读；默认朗读服务为 macOS 系统语音。
- 仅在用户主动启动截图命令并框选区域后捕获图像；
- 截图使用「屏幕录制」权限，不使用「辅助功能」权限；
- 隐私模式会停用所有联网服务，使 OCR、翻译和朗读保持本机处理。
本机处理与可选云服务
实时字幕转写、默认 Vision OCR 和系统语音路径在设备本地运行。第三方云翻译、云 OCR 和云语音默认关闭；只有用户主动填写自己的凭据、启用并选择服务后才会调用，内容将依据对应服务商的隐私政策直接发送给该服务商。
